Re : Proposed development through and around Merebank concentration camp in Durban
Greetings
My name is David Christie representative for the Boervolk concerning Heritage sites and Boer Heritages
It is with shock that we came to know about the proposed development of Transnet to expand the rail link to the Widened harbour and that this rail will be passing on the site of the Merebank concentration camp cemetery.
As Merebank concentration camp cemetery is a Boer heritage site that belongs to the Boervolk we strongly condemn your proposed route of the rail link and would therefore suggest that you relook the path you want to take here.
Under no circumstances will the Boervolk get into a discussion regarding the moving of said cemetery to another location so the rail link can pass there. It will remain where it is !!!
We strongly suggest that you would refrain from demolishing the Boer Heritages anywhere in the country and abroad as we would not allow anyone these actions that we see as injustice to the Boervolk heritage and disrespect to our past and future concerning these sites and our history.
Please note that we see this in a very serious light and would continue and escalate our efforts in stopping you regarding the proposed development.
Regards
David Christie
Boervolk representative.
